Expert Witness
You need someone who understands how HR actually works—not just how it's supposed to work.
I've spent more than 20 years working inside organizations across employment law, human resources, employee relations, risk, claims, litigation, and organizational leadership.
That means I've seen workplace decisions from a lot of different seats.
I've investigated employee complaints, advised managers and executives, made and reviewed employment decisions, developed policies and processes, managed litigation, worked with outside counsel and insurers, negotiated labor agreements, led HR functions, and dealt with the gap that sometimes exists between what an organization's policy says and what actually happens.
I bring that real-world perspective to expert witness engagements involving employment and HR practices.
I'm also comfortable in the room.
My expert witness work is a new chapter, but testimony and litigation are not.
Throughout my in-house career, I was deeply involved in litigation strategy and served extensively as a corporate representative. I've given approximately 25 depositions, participated in approximately 30 mediations, and served as the corporate representative in approximately 15 jury trials.
That experience taught me something you don't learn from reviewing a file: what it feels like to sit across from opposing counsel, answer difficult questions under oath, stay within the question being asked, explain complicated facts clearly, and remain composed when the stakes are high.
I've also spent years working directly with outside counsel on case strategy, witness preparation, discovery, settlement, mediation, and trial. I understand what attorneys need from an expert—and that being knowledgeable is only part of the job.
I know the difference between having an opinion and being able to explain and defend it.
How I can help
Depending on the case, I can assist with issues involving:
Workplace investigations
Employee relations practices
Performance management and discipline
Termination and other employment decisions
HR policies, procedures, and practices
Manager and HR responsibilities
Documentation practices
Organizational decision-making
Claims and litigation management
Standards and practices within the HR function
Engagements may include early case assessment, record review, consultation with counsel, written reports or opinions, deposition testimony, and trial testimony.
What you can expect from me
My job isn't to find a way to support the position of the attorney who hired me.
It's to look at the facts, apply my experience, ask the questions I think matter, and tell you what I actually think.
Sometimes that will be exactly what you hoped to hear. Sometimes it won't be. Either way, you'll know where I stand and why.
I also understand litigation from the inside. I know that an expert opinion has to survive more than a conference-room conversation, and I'm comfortable explaining complicated workplace practices in straightforward language.
Not sure whether I fit your case?
Send me a brief description of the matter and the issues you're evaluating. We can determine whether my experience is a good fit before you invest significant time or money.
One important distinction
I am a licensed attorney, but I am not serving as your attorney when retained as an expert witness. An expert engagement does not create an attorney-client relationship. I provide legal representation only through a separate written legal-services engagement.
